Jonathan, congratulations for tracking it down -- because I think
you've got it nailed. My wiring-harness damage was not visible
either (and I've done my time as an electronics dweeb so I know how
to inspect wires), but I am fairly sure the actual problem was at the
forward edge of the gas tank which is a chafe point and probably a
wire-fatigue point. To this day I do not know whether I had an
open-circuit or short-circuit problem, but I do know that a brand-new
wiring harness with the ty-wraps (that should have been there in the
first place!) has utterly solved the problem [knock on
forehead]. Your symptoms (waggling bars to revive it) sound very
much like mine. So when the harness recall is done, I suspect that
the Beast will run just fine in spite of whatever you may do to it
with sprinklers
