Experience is the best teacher as long as it doesn't cost to much and no one loses an eye.
I'll continue to squirt some of what I have around on to the chain about every 300 - 400 miles. You can feel it loosen up as you're spinning the back wheel with the other hand. But they say, the O-ring / X-ring chains are 'internally' lubed. I guess they're right but I still put some 'external' lube on it anyway.
