This is awesome. I remember being a kid and looking at all sorts of bikes with amazement and thinking "I want one of those". It was cool, it was dangerous, oh, and it was cool. Anytime someone with a bike would stop, I'd run up and look with wide eyes. Around 8 or so, it was time to start on my own, so through my kiddie years (up until about 17) it was Piaggios, Vespas, Lambrettas, Puchs, Z ndapps, Gileras, Aprilias, Yamahas, Kawis and all sorts of bikes. I moved to Huntington Beach, CA at 17 and had to stay busy with.. You know, paying rent and stuff, so I was stuck with a Honda 450 for a while, but soon after I picked up a few FJ1200's and have mostly stayed with the Big Four since then, with a few miles of "American" bikes since then (no Indians, but they were bought by the Brits recently I think, so domestics are scarce). No matter what I ride, being able to wave or high-five a kid hearing the rumble of an engine is priceless because you know that just one or two good impressions will be another biker on the road in 10-15 years. I wave to him. His face breaks out into a big grin. The fear is gone and he is waving for all he is worth. This makes my entire week. Who knows what will happen to that little boy in the future. I hope he will have fond memories of that moment as I do, and that when he gets older he will have first a curiousity, and then a passion for motorcycling like I did when I was a kid. I always try to be a good ambassador for motorcycling wherever and on whatever I am riding. It just seems to be a whole lot easier on a KLR.
