yahoo groups is soo frustrating

When my bike sets for more then 4 or 5 days with out riding the battery goes dead. Its not the parking lights left on. Something is pulling it down. Any one have any ideas as to what to look for ? That will kill the majority of the opportunities for power usage. If that stops the dead battery you can work from there. If the battery has a good charge and checks out OK there is another trick you can use to pinpoint the draw....Disconnect the battery (+) and hook a test light between the post and the cable...If there is a draw then it will light up the light....then start pulling fuses and plugs (Stator, accessory lighter ) to narrow down the source of the draw....when the light goes out then you have found your problem. When I purchased my A19(2005?) I noticed the PO had installed an auxiliary battery plug for attaching a trickle charger. Is this a a problem with the KLRs? I've yet to find a dead battery when I go to my bike, but the most is 10 days sitting. And the PO installed a new battery right before the sale. Dennis, 'Electrical Problems' . . WILL drive you 'round the bend' !! I'm definitely a firm believer in the engineering 'K.I.S.S. Principle'. In this case I'd start with the easiest to get at, the 'beginning point' for testing, and possibly the actual source of the problem. Take the battery out and check the fluid levels, and the Specific Gravity, of the individual cells. If that is OK, then take it to a local automotive supply shop { Allied Auto, NAPA, Pep Boys, etc}, or where you would get a new battery. Even though it is physically small, it IS 12v and they should be able to test it - both 'no load' and 'under load'. Some times only one cell is shorted or sulfated. Or putting out only 11v {which, believe it or not - IS a 'dead' battery !!}. Or the voltage reads 'correct' but the 'amp/hour' rate is down.
