On the first day of an 800 mile trip around the Olympic Peninsula, I dropped the KLR ('07, 19,500 miles) on a trail meant for, ahem, smaller bikes... although the guide book said it could be done on a GS! Anyway, the impact to the radiator caused the fan blades to separate from the fan motor. I ran it like this for the remainder of the trip (insert witty comments here_______________________). I kept it relatively cool by stopping often. However there were enough instances where I could not/would not stop due to safety or fun factors.
Whatever. By the time I reached home, I had burned 1/2 quart of oil due to the minimal cooling afforded by the compromised cooling system/radiator. Note: this bike has NEVER burned oil. And I ride it relatively hard with a 14 tooth in front (regularly run over 5000RPM).
So, I have no specific question, but am open to comments and theories as to any harm that may have or will come my way (or my bikes way for that matter).

If the engine overheats, you could warp the heat and cause the head gasket to leak.
1. Leak could be be in the antifreeze system:
a. Check your levels in the radiator and the overflow tank.
b. Look for oil in the antifreeze - a leak in one direction.
c. Missing antifreeze means the leak is going to the outside - do you smell antifreeze
2. Leak could be in the oil system:
a. You may be experiencing that problem if you never used oil before.
Keep us informed about what you find.

I had a similar experience walking into a serious Latino Bar /
Restaurant here in Texas looking for good ole TX Mex food. What I
walked into was place filled with mean looking hombres probably just
across from Mexico or Central America and not the standard good ole
boy local TX Mexicans. Everyone was staring at me especially the
hombres in big white cowboy hats. The waitress nervously asked in
broken English if she could help me and my wife? I would like 2
orders of tacos I said. She looked around at the hombres who I guess
signaled it was OK so we got to eat hurriedly but it was a very quite
restaurant.. I have also been the only white guy in a all black night
club besides my son who was the keyboard player for a band composed
of mostly black guys, one Cuban and 2 whitey's so the band did a lot
of gigs in all black clubs. Interesting to say the least as I usually
felt all eyes were on me.... but everybody was cool. Humans are a
funny breed.
