disable kacr?

I suspect that my automatic compression release is making noise at idle. If I just remove the spring, does that effectively disable it? The shop manual shows it separately from the camshaft, but it looks to me like it's welded on. The only way to remove it entirely would be to cut the riveted hinge off? Thanks, Paul Streeter

Wouldn't disabling the auto compression release put added stress on the starter and it's mechanism? If it's just making noise and not hurting anything... eddie

It's not a show stopper since I can manually hold the lever in the choked position for the few seconds it takes to get started. > > Anyone else have this problem? Any idea what might be the cause? I can't tell anything from the service manuals. Just thought I would ask the group before I tear into it. Thanks for any help. > > Bruce Bordt > Milford, MI > A14 >
