Yesterday afternoon, I stopped by the m/c shop on the way to my paying job as a computer geek and picked up some carb washers to shim the needle in my bike.
As previously reported, I'd backed out the idle mixture screw 1.75 turns before stopping mid-$0.22 mod. The bike ran fine on the way to work, thankfully.
Home this morning, it took no time to remove the side panels, seat & fuel tank to get at the carb. I disconnected the throttle cables and was really careful
to keep slack in the choke cable so as not to break the plastic end off. So prepared, I loosened the carb clamps and rotated it slightly to the right (as viewed from above from the riding position). That allowed easy access to the slide cover screws. No trouble there, I removed the slide, shimmed the needle with one washer and drilled out the slide hole with the mythical 7/64 drill bit. back together again, I cautiously rotated the carb slightly to the left of straight up and down. again, the choke cable got lots of attention. I retightened one carb clamp to hold it in place & then rechecked the idle mixture screw. I set it somewhere between 1.75 and 2.00 as a base. All back together, I started it up and the bike ran just fine. Too tired from being up since 2:30pm Thursday, I'm headed to sleep. Will give my grin-o-meter report tomorrow.

A little overkill.
No need to remove tank or panels for carb access. I only remove the little
cover that used to cover the clutch kill switch.
I can reach in and loosen the carb and turn it and adjust the carb in
minutes, a little practice and you'll be a champ too.
The only disadvantage I've found is that my choke is now moving so easily
that it won't stay on.

Used the 1 3/4" hole saw and removed the spark arrestor from the muffler then installed the cap... Sounds mellow. I did not want to go to the trouble of carb modification or such so I went back stock. Sale price, complete muffler with tip, $40 plus shipping.

I might be interested in just the tip, if its flanged and has a turn down.
Spark Arrestor has been removed ? I thought the Spark Arrestor was deep inside the pipe.
Tweety from the knowledge on the list happens when the preforated tube in the exhaust tip gets to a point of carbon/rust/whoknows build up, what some of us have done is to take a long screwdriver and a hammer and split that preforated tube seem on the bottom and spread it open with the screwdriver, packing will fly out first time you start the bike so make sure the exhaust is pointed out your garage door when you rev it. I had a small cloud.
Unless of course you just want a different muffler, then you have choices.
Loud, Louder and WTF is that thing doing on a bike, or check eBay for a take off, or post on the list your looking for a takeoff, alot take them off when they buy aftermarket pipes.
Try looking at
www.ronayers.com for a OEM replacement, they used to have prices, just quick looked while at work and did not see prices listed.
