Wal-Mart had a sale on Moble Delvac 15-40 oil when I went to get some
Shell 15-40. It was a buck less and it is for diesels as well, so I
decided to try it. I could almost sware it shifts much better than it
did. Anybody used this oil? What is your opinion if you have?

I've used Delvac, Rotella, Mobil 1, Castrol Synthetic, Castrol GTX, and many many others. I think oil is good for the bike. New oil is really good for the bike. Never had a noticeable problem with any of them.

I won't take credit for this information, but here are the general feelings about oil.
The KLR and oil type, amount and change frequency:
Motor oil, enough and when you need to.
and...
"It's a KLR, not a space shuttle"
My personal regimen:
Castrol Syntech 10w40 every 3000 miles. New filter every other change, and I keep it filled to the top line on the sight glass. Some people say not to use synthetic, but I've used it pretty much since its introduction and I've never had a problem with the clutch or a mechanical problem with the engine. Do not use anything that says "Energy Conserving II" on the bottle.

I know it is only a KLR, but I plan to have it for a long time.
I use Mobil 1 MX4T Motorcycle Specific full synthetic oil.
New filter with every change at 3,000 or so miles.
Is my way the right way? Is my way the only way?
Don't know. But I do know that I have had tremendous luck in
all my vehicles using Mobil 1. I think it is the king of lubricants.

Robert,
I don't have anything to add to this thread, but would like to ask a question. I have you heard of any outfits in the Natural State that rents KLRs? Might be returning to my home state this fall for a week or two fishing tour with some college friends and would like to rent a klr. In Idaho now and don't wish to spend off my off time traveling between the two states on my own bike. Thanks.
