Luc,
Yes about the need for several 'trials' to get accuracy, but why the the
need to go through several full tanks?
I have a 2003 'vintage' and the speedometer/odometer has a resettable 'trip
meter' {knob on the right side of the instrument cluster}. 50 miles {of a
mix of your typical riding pattern} should be enough for each 'trial'.
With a 'typical' mileage of 50 to 60 mpg you should be able to get about 5
sets of data per tank. While the more data points you have the greater the
accuracy, 10 sets should give a fairly accurate figure for this 'study'.
Regards & Good Luck,

. . . trying to calculate my gas mileage after re-jetting, air box mod, and
stock exhaust modification , I came up with 61 mpg on the first tank . Seems
like I gained about 10 mpg, but that's just the 1st tank I' ll have to burn
a few more to get an accurate average . . .
