reason I was asking about Capacity I was trying to calculate my gas mileage after re-jetting, air box mod, and stock exhaust modification , I came up with 61 mpg on the first tank . Seems like I gained about 10 mpg, but that's just the 1st tank I' ll have to burn a few more to get an accurate average . Not bad at all though

Yeah,
Funny thing about the book, legends, myths etc.
You won't know if the tip-over works until your bike is overloaded, out of fuel, and it is still 10 miles from a fueling point.
Did I mention it will be colse to 100F as well....
revmaaatin.
ps. if you are using a fuel filter, you will find this out sooner than later. ie. hit reserve because you need head pressure for fuel to flow through the filter, resulting in 'more' trapped gas than just .3 gallons.

Tank capacity has nothing to do with gas mileage.
Fill er up, go X amount of miles, fill er up again, and divide miles you travelled by the amount of gas you used.
for example; if you travel 260 miles, and it takes 4.9 gallons of gas to fill the tank back up you got 53 mpg.
260 4.9 = 53
My bike is stock. My highest mileage was 61, my lowest was 52.
If you made modifications, and still got 61 mpg. I'm impressed.

This is true. Montana, Hwy 89, 20 miles north of fuel at Livingston, sputter to a stop. Fully loaded for the Great Divide Ride, 100 degrees (the heat wave of July '07), middle of nowhere. I had to employ the tip-over not once, but twice to make it to gas at the I-90 interchange. My poor back. Turns out the air filter was clogging and cut the mileage, unknownst to me. The KLR's "emergency reserve" saved the day.

I fill every 200 so it is easy to calculate. I usually get about
45 ...... but in a strong wind recently .... I went on reserve at
about 175 miles.

104 today here. Give me 40 degrees and drizzle which makes me a
happier rider. I stay in the pool or under the air conditioner this
time of year .... here. Heat really wears me out riding.

I feel your pain. It has been high 90's and humid here in Central Illinois this week. I ride to work, and back home. It is like riding inside a furnace. Supposed to be in the low 80's next week.... Perfect !

Same here in the DFW area. Been getting hotter daily, yesterday was a
bitch as I waited at the
airport for (2) hours to p/u kid and had totally forgotten about customs
and left too early! The
only thing about I miss from living in California is the weather! Love
to be outside most the time
and here can't do much after 10:00AM in the summer and have not gotten
use to the heat even
after (15) years!

I have lived in Tejas most my life (63) and still hate the heat (especially with high humidity). Vote no to Cap and Trade. We have to have air conditioning here- even though I grew up pretty much without it (especially in cars).
