Got a recall notice about muffler mounting bolts on the 2002 to 2008 models. Anybody know what this is about? Or is just a few loose fastenings? Dave

<><><><><><><> <><><><><><><> Dave, According to my local dealer it's the two bolts that hold the muffler to the frame. You have to pull the right side cover to get to one of them. I think the other is there too and behind the rear master cylinder reservoir cover is the front clamp. That's the one that if it gets loose might allow exhaust gasses to burn a hole in the clean side of the air box. The dealer here said they'd just check to make sure the bolts were tight and if one or both were missing they'd replace them. My nephew lost a muffler from a 2004 model on a highway in San Diego a few years ago. That bike only had about 2,000 smiles on it. I think Eagle Mike helped get him back on the road. Thanks Mike. : ) Best, Jeff Saline ABC # 4412 South Dakota Airmarshal Airheads Beemer Club www.airheads.org The Beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota 75 R90/6, 03 KLR650, 79 R100RT

My rear most muffler bolt to frame, fell out on my last ride. Got my notice this weekend (G). Naturally the dealer doesn't have any of the bolts. Have to wait to get mine fixed.

I got my recall notice today for my '08. Muffler bolts and harness. The muffler bolts were on a previous recall notice and were fixed, but if the Great Green Father believes , in his wisdom, that they need re-fixing, at his expense, who am I to argue? DC

Ok with my carburettor partially fixed I feel i may now move onto the next problem. Same bike KLR 600 it has the electric start on this model it has been working fine but recently it started to make a really loud 'clunking' noise when i engage the switch. Its quite loud and sort of sounds like maybe the magneto has come loose or the cogs have moved or something isn't catching quite enough. Sound comes from left hand side of engine casing, engine runs fine when started by other means and has no 'clunking'noise whilst idle or riding. Thanks again in advance.

I've had my bike a whopping 9 days and got a recall notice already. :( Part "A" was in regards to muffler mounting bolts coming loose. I snugged mine up and it should be good to go. I'll keep an aeye on them just the same. Part "B" concerns possible wiring harness chafing along the frame. Can anyone describe where this might occur? I'd like to address it myself before it gets to be an issue. I've already had the seat & gas tank off to install a Thermo-Bob. So, I can get at most everything without hesitation. THANKS!!! eddie [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
