I'm using the KTM fender from their SX/EXC/MXC bikes. Pics here:

It has the same fender-tire clearance as the stocker and looks very much
like the 2008 and later KLR fender. On second thought the new KLR fenders
look like the Katoom fenders. This OEM KTM part is actually made by
Acerbis. you can see both the KTM and Acerbis logos on it if you look
carefully. I had to enlarge two of the four mounting holes slightly with a
rattail file then used fender washer under the stock KLR bolts. It has
proven to be much better than the stocker in crosswinds and just as capable
as the stocker in mud and rain.

You might want to look at a KTM Motard fender, off the 690 Duke or the 990
Super Duke(?). You'll need a fork brace or cobble up something to your own
liking to mount it on. It does noticebly calm the front end down in strong
cross winds. HOWEVER, you only have about an inch of clearance between the
tire and the fender, so your muddy, off-road capabilities will be greatly
diminished.
I mounted one on my '99 along with a 19" wider wheel and tire for my street
adentures. Every one that has tried out the bike at TechDays has spoken
favorably about the change. I can definitely tell the difference between
my modified '99 on my stocker '06.

will I loose? what is the advantage of the stock fender.

There is a related video-link that bears watching as well.
The tire-changing tool looks really slick, albeit, it appears there is a chase vehicle there for support on this 'hack'.

Hah!! Look at the difference between these two tire change videos. Same tire changing stand and the guy with more levers takes waaaaayyy longer to complete the change (granted the other guy is using a mousse, so no worries about flats, but still the removal of the tire alone is
impressive).
