ufo low front fender

I am considering getting a ufo low fender for better stability on the interstate. Is high speed handling improved with this fender? Also what will I loose? what is the advantage of the stock fender.

The big advantage is if you are ever caught in an East Texas black
clay gumbo mud hole, you will be able to ride / paddle through it.
With a low fender, you will have a very bad day and use all of the
curse words in your vocabulary (been there). My vocabulary is quite
extensive.
Plus the high fender will keep you awake on a windy day.

You might want to look at a KTM Motard fender, off the 690 Duke or the 990
Super Duke(?). You'll need a fork brace or cobble up something to your own
liking to mount it on. It does noticebly calm the front end down in strong
cross winds. HOWEVER, you only have about an inch of clearance between the
tire and the fender, so your muddy, off-road capabilities will be greatly
diminished.
I mounted one on my '99 along with a 19" wider wheel and tire for my street
adentures. Every one that has tried out the bike at TechDays has spoken
favorably about the change. I can definitely tell the difference between
my modified '99 on my stocker '06.

The UFO fender works miracles with crosswinds. Not as easy to install as
the instructions say, and yes there is not a lot of clearance for mud. The
Clamp should go over the fork boots to do things right. Requires moving
mounting holes. Good afternoon project.

The 'high' position allows you to go thru mud without it packing up and locking the front wheel. A low fender isn't very compatible with mud. I have no problems with high speeds with the high fender on my '04. If you do, check your steering stem bearings for looseness.

Robert,
I've been using Toyota Redline coolant for the last year without issues.
The only problem I found is it costs over $20 a gallon. I'm gonna keep
using it.
