I am considering a different muffler. I would like something lighter, long
lasting, with a nice tone, and has no effect on gas mileage, or standard carb
jetting. Oh, and it has to fit like it was made for the KLR only. Is there any
 such thing out there?

The Big Gun has long been the poster child for obnoxious aftermarket exhaust systems: expensive, loud and fragile. Spend your money on suspension and pin some playing cards in the spokes.

				[dsn_klr650] muffler

Just keep in mind, when you "open" up your exhaust . it decreases back pressure. it will change how your bike performs. If you install a muffler that is too free flowing, you will need to make changes to your intake to allow more air in. then to the carb to allow more fuel. etc. were dealing with a single cylinder. every change we make no matter how little, effects the internal combustion. remove the air filter door and factory air filter. ride the bike. you will notice a change. your letting in more air. now the engine wants more fuel to compensate. when you install a good flowing aftermarket exhaust. you are removing back pressure from the engine. this will effect the engine and its Peak RPM torque.

So, read up on the exhaust and how its made. ask the manufacturer. what will this muffler do to my engine. will I need to change my intake or carb settings. When I installed the supertrapp. I needed to shim my needle and modify my airbox. HUGE difference in response and engine peak RPM torque. when I install my factory pipe to have a quiet ride..... engine losses power, cause now I have back pressure and the carb and intake is not set up for that. so instead of thinking of sound as your main objective. think performance. when do you want the power to peak? 2000-3000 rpm. 4000-5000 rpm. etc. then you will narrow down your exhaust choices to as few manufacturers. Any after market pipe you install will be much, much louder. the stock muffler sounds like a scooter compared to aftermarket pipes. Well, I hope my rambleing helps..... hahaha

Currently have the Supertrapp installed with 12 disc's. a few weeks back, I installed the factory pipe for some "quiet time". Cages couldnt hear me coming !! I noticed I lost my safety rev. letting people know that i'm next to them. in about 10 miles of city riding, I noticed a huge difference. I was too stealthy : ) with the Trapp on, I rev and people know i'm next to them, when splitting lanes coming to a red light, most car drivers move over alittle. just for that cushion of space. I feel safer with a louder pipe. and my engine likes me better also

  hahaha

We agree Jud. I have a Big Gun but have gone back to stock (after
drilling a few anti tweety holes). You loose KLR friends with a loud
exhaust like Big Gun (but Harley guys start to wave).
