He said that when he would start it it would be fine and then die when he applied power. When I got there we jumped it (battery dead) and it started just fine. Rev it up and seemed fine. Put it in gear and eased out on the clutch. Tach needle shot to zero and motor died. The bike would start in nuetral with the clutch out or in gear with the clutch squeezed. With the trans in nuetral the clutch lever could be in or out and all was fine. As soon as it was put in gear and the clutch eased out the tach needle would go to zero and motor would cut off. We took the clutch switch apart and cleaned the contacts but it did nnot make a difference. Not sure where the nuetral switch is. There does not appear to be a sidestand switch. Any and all advice appreciated. Shame of all shame we had to (glup) trailer the bike back to his house. > --
Just wanted to get "neutral" spelled right. It was driving me crazy.

really blown now- fixed- blown shock in baja

Post by ssridesred » Sun Mar 08, 2009 3:26 am

Thought I'd update this thread with how long my Mexico shock fix lasted. On my Baja trip in the spring of 2007 I lost all oil via the shrader valve core. The nylon bushing on the valve core seemed to have melted away and out came the oil. This gave me a chance to practice riding with zero rebound or damping for 700 miles until I could get to La Paz. At La Paz I cleaned the shock out with gas, added ATF tranny fluid, nitrogen and rode it home. Last fall the seals finally failed(99% sure it's the head seal) and I am back to a pogo stick. In all I covered 3,000 plus miles with ATF over an 18 month time period. Ordered up a new head seal so it's time to clean up my shock and get some shock oil in there. It was quite stiff with ATF in it but it served me well while it lasted. Steve
