Received today, again with a note in regards to the muffler mounting
bolts, and now t*he main harness can
chafe against the frame and cause the engine to stop running. *
The best part of the recall notice is in large bold font
*DO NOT RIDE YOUR MOTORCYCLE UNTIL THE REPAIR HAS BEEN COMPLETED
*Interesting is just last month the dealer finally got the replacement
turn signals installed and it took
them about a month with the bike there! Wonder how long it will take for
them to get the new
main harness. The recall notices indicates that they are going to
'remove the pain from the muffler
mount tabs and replacing the bolts/nuts again and next inspect and
replace the main wiring harness
if necessary, I think it's going to be necessary in my case as I don't
want it screwing up in the future!
BTW, anyone else get these as could be serial number related. This is my
3rd KLR and never
received any recalls on the other ones!

Got mine today for my '08. My exhaust had already fallen off, melted the rear brake line, a few other plastic bits, replaced under waranty, etc. I haven't checked the wiring harness, but will when I get the chance. I'll get it in to a dealer some time soon, but I'm not in a great hurry. But, I didn't get any kind of notice on turn signals yet, which I've already almost knocked off. :S --Jonathan "smthng" Kalmes Springfield, VA 2005 Yamaha FJR1300ABS - "Blue Bayou" 2006 Jeep Unlimited Rubicon - "Teflon" 2008 Kawasaki KLR 650 - It's here, but it hasn't earned a name yet.> BTW, anyone else get these as could be serial number related. I lucked out on my 650R. I bought the guinea pig model model (2000), and only had to replace a poorly designed countershaft oil seal, and a sticky thermostat. The bad news is that Honda discontinued them this year. The good news is I now own a collector's model.

~~~I got this current recall notice Monday...I have an 08' I bought new in late November 07' AFAIK, the main harness has been an item to look for when you have the fuel tank off, to check for chaffed wiring. More than likely, this is an inspection only. Yes it will be an inconvienence if your main harness proves to be defective, then you'll have to bring the bike back after your dealer gets the harness to install, involving one more trip there and back Nice that KHI is sending these notices out to owners of these models IMO. Better than turning their backs on us. Look at it this way, your bike was built in Thailand, whaddja expect?=:-) Jake Reddick Fla.> 3rd KLR and never > received any recalls on the other ones! >
Well, because of this thread, I spent $123 for a Thermo Bob and a gauge overlay. My main reason is for increased mileage which I believe will result from more even and warmer engine temp. My experience has been that in cool weather my mileage suffers.
My experience shows the Thermo-Bob makes a significant difference in
engine coolant temperature stability at ambient temps below about 70
degrees F. If I always rode at temps above 70 degrees F I probably would
not install a Thermo-Bob.
Best,
Jeff Saline
Thanks Jeff.
I guess I don't need a Thermo-Bob
I live in North Central IL.
Due to snow and salt trucks, I put my bike away for the Winter.
