Hello Folks! When I bought my 2001 650 in 2002, it came with an
Odyssey battery. It's provided great service for 7 years. This weekend
the "Beast" stopped starting. It started gradually, and each time the
KLR was shut off and restarted, cranking was slower and slower until
finally there was no cranking at all. Due to circumstances, this
battery has never been charged other then by the KLR itself. It's been
in 12 to 118 degree temps with periods of up to 2 months of not being
started when I was hospitalized. Never failed to start till now. Do I
get the battery charged and hope for the best? Do I somehow test if
the charging system is working properly, or just buy a new battery?
Also since the Odyssey is mounted on it's side rather then it's
bottom, should an OEM battery fit properly without modification? Thanks!!

foot peg bolts
The metal on the little mount box is too soft. Mine stripped out and I had to do a helicoil which worked out very well. I use the red locktite. If I have to apply a little heat to get them off when needed, it's worth it to not have them get loose. There is a lot of stress on those bolts.

Take 5 mins and check your foot peg bolts. If lose, add blue Loctite /
Permatex and tighten to 13 ft-lbs.
I tried to keep them tight, one side with and one side without the
treadlocker. The side without eventually loosens for some reason.
