fan comes on for no reason.

Tom,
By design, the key doesn't have to be on for the fan to run. The possible causes of your bike's problem are:
1. Faulty fan thermo switch (located in bottom of radiator). It should switch on at 201 degrees F, off at 196.
2. Red/white wire from fan relay to fan thermo switch is shorting to ground.
3. Faulty fan relay.
Hope this helps,

Subject: [DSN_KLR650] Fan comes on for no reason.
This morning at 6:15 a.m. I parked the A 19 and hooked it up to
a battery charger. At 4:15 p.m. I heard something running and found
my fan running on the A19.
The key was not on. Now I am thinking that this has happened before
and the cause of my battery being drained.
What do I have to change to prevent this from happening again?
