sargent klr seat? be aware...

From my experience, it's Sargent over Mayers for me: In 2005 I ordered a custom saddle from Bill Mayer for my 2004 Honda ST1300. Long story short, I made 3 attempts, mailing my seat back and forth from Buffalo to California for Bill to correct the obvious design and build deficiencies I repeatedly specified. Bill uses your stock seat pan, so these 3 long periods left me with the ST parked. (I have my KLR650 A14 to ride, but it made for a lousy riding year for my wife and I) After all these attempts, time, aggravation and expense, I asked for a refund and Bill/Sue did delay/avoid/deceive me, but through my persistence I eventually got a refund. I felt VERY lucky to eventually get the refund from Bill based on my experience, plus the alleged reports I'd read online where brother Rick Mayer out and out denied service or refunds. Upon receiving the refund I promptly bought a Sargent saddle which the Mrs. & I love. Excellent design/build quality plus less expensive. Comes on their own beautifully designed pan with two storage compartments built right into the bottoms of the pans, an unexpected bonus. And you still have your OEM seat. Comes right from the factory with all the correct design features to properly support the rider & passenger, that Bill Mayer simple could not do right. After 4 years use and 30,000+ miles I'd buy another Sargent saddle with confidence. That's my experience and I would never put myself through that again. However I do suspect that the chances of success would be much higher for ANY custom builder if you and your bike could be there in person. Thank you, Mike, you were a big help to me! Yesterday I received an email from RonAyers informing me the balancer was backordered to mid-February and maybe beyond. Today I called RonAyers, canceled first order, created second order for better-designed, updated balancer (and circlip, as was included in first order) from 2005 model that is in stock, then converted the shipping cost of ~$10 from the first order into chemicals so that my order amount exceeded $99, for free shipping. Bottom line: with Mike's help and for the downtime of (10) days, I'm putting in upgraded replacement parts and got $10 chemicals for free. The KLR should be running again around 2/7/09. Thanks, Mike!
