I used to work in a full service gas station in the early 70s. (anyone remember them?) We sold Marvel Mystery Oil and there were a few users who swore that it was a miracle elixir for their cars. Better gas mileage, longer lasting engine, all kinds of benefits. But, I think these guys had cars that held up well simply because they took better care of them. Regular oil changes, clean car, frequent waxing. Maintenance. Contrasting that is the vivid memory of a guy I knew casually who came in for a fill up. When I checked his oil, the dipstick looked like it had been dipped in black sludge. And it was a quart low. I asked him "How long has it been since you had an oil change?" "Never! I don't believe in oil changes! You don't have to change the oil in your car, ever! You just add oil as needed!" I think he added an engine "as needed" not too long after that. aphampton628 wrote:
