engine balancer weight failure

Eagle Mike: "You can replace the multi-piece balancer weights of the
early model with the laterunit parts."
Thanks for the info, Mike.
Wish I had known of this option when ordering my parts; the cost would
have been the same, I'd have gotten a sprocket for free and wouldn't
have to wrestle the rollers/springs into place.
The cost of the upgraded balance weight and sprocket is roughly the
same as I paid for the old-style balancer/springs/rollers - without
the sprocket. If you needed the sprocket, which I didn't, the new
parts are a $35 savings - who'd a thought parts prices decline?
2000: shows a choice of either a balancer and sprocket combo with no
rods or springs; or buying each part including the rods and springs
separately.
2007 & 2008: balancer weight and sprocket must be purchased together,
and there are no springs/rods. No option to purchase separate parts.
Interestingly, the deduction here is that Kawasaki decided there was
no need for the additional complexity of the shock-absorbing springs
in this application.
As an aside, what Kawasaki calls "rollers" are more like locating
pins, in that the "rollers" do not roll, as in needle bearings.
