Link to the route: http://www.dakar.com/2009/DAK/presentation/us/r3_5-le-parcours.html Some of the race will be at altitudes over 15000 ft. And there will be dunes. -Bryan --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, Luc Legrain wrote:

aftermarket fork springs

Post by fmichaelhilton » Mon Dec 15, 2008 2:05 pm

Does anyone know the springs on the 08 would be the same as the 07? I am bottoming out on the front and want to consider an aftermarket solution. Does the Progressive fork springs cause the ride to be harsh, more than stock? Any other suggestions for aftermarket springs? Mike H.

No it is not harsh. At the same time, you will be replacing your fork oil. I recently did this and put in 7 wt. oil. The ride was quite good after I made these changes. Incidentally, the suggestion about how many cc's of oil to add is only a rough estimate. Mine took quite a bit more. Evidently the air space above the oil is the important part. ________________________________ From: fmichaelhilton To: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com Sent: Monday, December 15, 2008 2:05:01 PM Subject: [DSN_KLR650] Aftermarket fork springs Does anyone know the springs on the 08 would be the same as the 07? The Progessive springs are progressive but I'm unclear if they will keep you from bottoming out. Maybe you could pop the tops of the fork tubes and add a spacer / increase the length of an exisiting spacer to add more preload to your exisiting equipment. You could 'cheaply' experiment with increasing preload (wear your safety glasses) to see if this helps your problems (use a piece of PVC pipe to do this). I believe there is a little bit of difference in the 'kit' that comes with the pre-08 and the 08 'kit' includes only the springs. Well worth the money, IMHO I haven't noticed the ride being harsher but better especially in braking and cornering. It does feel a little stiffer I would describe it as more stable rather than harsher however. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ From: fmichaelhilton To: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com Sent: Monday, December 15, 2008 3:05:01 PM Subject: [DSN_KLR650] Aftermarket fork springs Does anyone know the springs on the 08 would be the same as the 07?
