I have been able to straighten dings and bends pretty much with a BFH. IIf you have loose spokes, those will have to be tightened. Your rim may not look the best when done but it will be functional. If you are needing a new larger rim, I'd suggest checking out www.buchananspokes.net and see what they can do for you. When I rode bicycles, we attached playing cards or balloons to the fork to rub on the spokes ..... to give it that Harley-est ambiance (er .... sound). Probably made the spokes loose but ignorance is bliss. I tried tightening or truing up my spokes on my bicycle once. Gee it sure has an effect when you really tighten up some on one side and not the other. That experience made me not want to ever spoke a new rim on my motorcycles. I had to eventually take it to the bike shop, it was so crooked. Keep those spokes tight. I was riding with a friend one day, me on my old Yamaha IT and he on a RM Suzuki (mid 80's). He was having trouble that day. Good reason, he was missing about half his spokes in the rear. Very wobbly was he. Criswell

Not much of a story really, day 2 LA-Barstow-Vegas, heading out of the Mojave Riverbed after Afton Canyon on Rasor Road, I was way out in front and hauling ass when I found an old piece of the asphalt roadbed and hit the edge of it. Blam! It's not really even that bad of a weld, and like Fred said a BFH would definitely fix it. However, I replaced the front with an Excel rim last year after discovering the rim was totally broken along the weld (I discovered this during a tire change, thank goodness, not the hard way...), and I thought a sweet Excel rear rim would be a nice Christmas / Anniversary present for my KLR, which I purchased new 10 years ago last month.
