stator problem started with valve cover

A while ago I was doing the valve clearance check and sure enough, they were out. I ordered the shims and made the adjustment, then buttoned it back up. Since I had already done the clearance check a couple of times before, I was pretty comfortable with it all. Then the bike wouldn't start. Cranked, but wouldn't ignite. After trying everything I could think of, I took it to a shop and it didn't take them long to pinpoint the problem. While I was tightening up the mount that hangs off the frame above the valve cover, I squashed one of those wires you need to pull out of the way while moving the cover off and then back on. It was crushed against the frame, and the exposed wire apparently shorted a circuit and toasted my stator, which now needs to be replaced. Lesson learned: be careful about those wires. Now, who was it that had the parts bike? Any chance the stator is available? Mine's a 2002. Anyone know a good parts supplier? My shop uses two different suppliers (I forget which) and apparently the earliest they can get a new one in is January 9th. It's back ordered, so maybe even that date is just speculative. Thanks, Bryan Burke

I have had good luck with OEM parts from BikeBandit.com. I've gotten 20-30 parts and they have never back ordered or delayed anything yet. db ________________________________ From: Bryan Burke To: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com Sent: Monday, December 8, 2008 6:36:54 PM Subject: [DSN_KLR650] stator problem started with valve cover A while ago I was doing the valve clearance check and sure enough, they were out. Bryan, If you haven't found one yet. I;m pretty sure I have on in the garage. Shoot me an email if you still need the part. I work at home so I can run out and check for you as soon as I hear from you. Tumu Rock aka da Vermonstert
