what are your reasons to ride?

I'm taking a trip cross country on my 07 KLR this December and my pops
asked me what I was going to see along the way. Coming from Savannah,
GA to San Diego, CA, I told him I was planning on seeing a friend in
Dallas and pretty much use San Diego as an arbitrary destination.
Otherwise the 11 days I have off will be straight riding. He says I'm
nuts for not making plans to throw in a couple more destinations. Am
I nuts? What's your balance for riding and destinations?

For me it's more about the ride than the destination. I feel your pain
of riding from GA too. I am in FL, just as bad. You are in for HELL
until you see that most welcome sign "Welcome to New Mexico". From home
to that moment is hell. NM. is a wonderland, as is anythng west of TX.
Enjoy the ride, and post a report of the sites and fun, after TX that
is. PLEASE vote (Republican) before you leave!

Ken,
Its your trip, go where you want....however-
Minimize the interstate travel.
Eat in Mom and Pop restaurants.
NOTE: If you do, it will (likely) take more than 11 days to reach SD.
Start with new tires that truly reflect the road surface you are
going to travel.
Set realistic, achievable distance goals. Otherwise, you will miss
your ride home to Savannah.
Enjoy the trip--and give us a trip report when you get back.
revmaaatin.
revmaaatin. more than 10K miles of minimal interstate travel and
maximum mom/pop eats this year.

Davy Crockett is often quoted as saying...
" You can go to Hell, I'm going to Texas"
But seriously, there is a lot of good riding in Texas, pilgrim.

Novice riders pick a destination. Seasoned riders pick a direction!

I'd recomend Hueco Tanks in Tx, around El-Paso. And a trip through
Cloudcroft N.M.
Also try camping out every night! scout locations a hour or two before
sunset, avoiding city lights. Take a pair of 7x50 binoculars and look
at the sky at night.
Look for places that the dirt road/sand indicates no recent travel. Camp
out of sight if somebody was to drive by at night.
Piss in a circle 20 feet diameter from your ground cloth/sleeping bag.
I believe it discourage cyoates from walking right up to you as you
sleep.
Only carry a tent and use it if looks like rain. Other wise sleep with
the stars as your canaopy. Expect the first 2-3 nights to be a bit scary
Rough it. Like a cowboy.

Hell, I just rode my 23 miles home from work, passing my Silverado
sitting forlornly in the yard, and it's 32f. I need a reason? Ya got
bike riders, and ya got riders of bikes.........

Randy, Try this, had to do it once myself.
Top the reservoir and put the top make on. Tip the bike so the res end
of the master cyl is up and the pump is down. Pump several times like
that. stand the bike back up and bleed as usual. I think it is like
priming the pump but anyways it worked when I had the same issue several
years ago on a non-klr.
If push comes to shove then get a hand pumped vacuum pump, the cheapo
plastic ones from HF work fine. Lave the cap off and open the bleeder.
Vacuum at the bleeder to draw the fluid down. You can do the whole job
like this but you need to watch the fluid level in the res.
-----original msg follows---------
However, I cannot get any pressure to build up. I mmust
be missing something really simple. I even tried going back to the
original and had the same result. Could anyone out there please help
me!!!!!!
Thanks, Randy
