2008 drive chain/sprockets

Hi Sean, my experience with bikes with a good quality o-ring chain is you can go through 2 or 3 front sprockets to a rear sprocket and chain set, assuming you change the fronts before they get really worn and damage the chain, The rear sprocket you should be able to look at and decide if it is worn to its service limit and the quick and dirty ( i still use chain lube, not WD40) chain check is to properly temsion the chain and see how far you can pull the chain off the rear of the rear sprocket at the centre line of the sprocket, directly in line with the swingarm. A new chain will not lift off the sprocket, the more it pulls away from the sprocket the more the chain/rear sprocket is worn. Have a great weekend.....Greg

Previous KLR's got 22k-25k before the signs were apparent. 1.) Are 08 Drive parts same as previous years? 2.) Why would front Sprocket wear so much faster? 3.) If front is tits up, should I just go ahead and replace chain and rear? 4.) Previous models when Sprockets were worn, Brakes were due also. Should I plan on doing these at the same time? BTW, my 08' which was cursed and broke down 7 times before 10k has now gone 7k trouble free. Looks like paying a preist for exorcism was a good investment. Though my butt still hurts a bit.
