I bought the preload adjusters and before installing them I want to change the oil. I have been told that synthetic ATF works great. A dealer, for one, told me that. But I read from one who tells how to do the change that you can clean the tube with ATF but be sure to rinse it with fork oil before filling it with fork oil. I have made the switch to Mobil 1 ATF and am liking it so far. The ride is a bit harsher than with 7 weight fork oil, but not obectionably so. Fork action is much improved, and my guess is that its due to the slickness of the synthetic oil. It think what you have been told is when switching to a different type of oil, to flush out the fork with the new type of oil you are switching to. For example, if you have fork oil in there now and want to switch to ATF, drian the fork oil out, put in some ATF and pump the fork tubes up and down several times to mix everything up. Drian the ATF, then fill to the recommended level with ATF. You can even flush it a couple of times until the ATF comes out clean. If you decide to switch back to Fork Oil, drain out the ATF, flush with fork oil, drain, then refill with fork oil. All you are doing is making sure that you don't have 2 different types of oil mixed together so you get accurate, repeatable results with whatever type of oil you will be using. Hope this helps. I agree with what Ross says here, flush it with whatever oil or fluid your going to use, which is what I did too. Did the same thing, pumped the tubes up and down and then flushed till it came out clean. If you don't mind, let us known how you like the ATF, and a second opinion on the preload adjusters would be greatly appreciated too, at least by me. Dan Bittner Sacramento, Ca.

No. Top of Tube Flush, fork cap even with top of triple is stock. Bet its easy to touch the ground hey.. I set mine 3/4" above the triples, needed just a little more footing when offroad. Dooden A15 Green Ape

Robert, Back in the '70s we used ATF in the forks of our enduro bikes (TT500, Can Am 400 Hercules 125, etc) , and since then I've used it in ALL my bikes - '78 XS750, '79 SR500, '03 Bandit 1200S, and '04 KLR 650. DEFINITELY made the fork action smoother in all cases, and I'll use it in my NEW Versys!!! Cheers, Ed
