Ron, Did you take off remove the clutch-cage-basket, with the large center nut, or was it always installed? If not, you don't need a fancy tool to tighten the clutch springs. Just put the bike in gear. If you took the center nut off; then you will need a clutch holding tool. I watched a tec two weeks a go use a Honda clutch-tool to do the same thing....you capture two of the bolt post of the clutch-cage with the bolts in the Honda tool. He said he liked that set up a lot better-- rather than trying to grip the outside of the clutch-cage-basket. When you tighten the center nut, you will have to reinstall the foot peg to hold the clutch tool or have two people to hold the tools as the Q is something like 100ftlbs (check to be sure). Make sure the clutch disk are well soaked in oil during installation, and the clutch plates (without fiber) are installed so the rounded edges of the teeth are towards the engine. Also make sure you don't lose the $1.69 washer for the water pump drain. Ask me how I know. revmaaatin. who participated in two clutch changes during the month of Sept.
