brake help!

Post by Paul » Wed Sep 17, 2008 8:55 pm

My front brake lever is not releasing all the way. It was working fine, I pulled the front wheel off and put it back on, and now I have to push the lever the rest of the way out with my fingers. A hang-up somewhere.... Any easy answers before I tear into it? Paul

Two things to check. 1 > Are the pucks in place and free? 2 > Trash on the sides of the piston making it stick. Years ago I was selling a '77 Suzy GS750 I had for about 5 years. When the guy took it for a test ride, he got to the stop sign in front of my home and stopped. Could leave the stop. He had used the rear brake and I had not use that in years , being a front brake on the street at that time on the street. Had to take the thing apart and clean and lube all up then worked fine. brake help!

I would pay close attention to how the pads are sitting in the calipers and that they are not binding or caught on something. I would take off the caliper and not the wheel to see how the pads are positioned; whether stuck or binding. Then I would put it back together and bleed the system. If that doesnt work, I would get a used front master cylinder off Ebay and try that. If that doesnt work, I would get a used front caliper off Ebay. Jeffrey

I just had the exact same problem. The advice given to me was perfect. I bet, since yours was working prior, like mine, it will be easy to fix. Here is what I was told to do and did: remove the caliper (set up a flat surface next to your front wheel, so you can lay the caliper on it) and remove the pin and pads and spring; (while you are there clean everything including the caliper holder pins and piston, making sure they are not binding); reinstall pads and pin being sure pads are seated in the spring properly; reinstall the caliper. I have not rebuilt any Kawasaki calipers, but I have rebuilt numerous other calipers. It is really not very hard. Basically you take it apart, clean and polish everything, and put it back together. If there are pitted, rusted parts you might have to replace some of them. If there are rebuild kits available they have all necessary parts. Usually there is just gunk in them that keeps them from working right. dave ----- Original Message ---- From: nakedwaterskier To: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com Sent: Wednesday, September 17, 2008 11:05:04 PM Subject: [DSN_KLR650] Brake Help!
