top gun spring.

Post by D Critchley » Sat Sep 06, 2008 9:17 pm

I've read a bit about these springs lately and I want to put one on my '08. I checked the FAQs, and the factory service manual but there is no mention of any excessive spring pressure being required to install the thing. Question is,Is there any problem in installing one of these or is it as easy as my two sources say it is? Thanks in advance, DC

DC, I purchased the Top Gun's heaviest weight spring and had the local Honda/ Kawasaki dealer install it on my shock, $15.00. If I had it to do over I might consider the middle weight, will know more when I pack the bike down for a road trip. For what it's worth, I think it is worth the expense. Mike H.

If you have the right spring compressor, it's easy. With the wrong one, it's a scary two-man job.

Yup. The "right" way is to use a hydraulic press. With that, it's a one-man, five-minute job. Mark

I ve done the change a couple of times. My advice is don t. There are plenty of auto places that will change it usually for cheap. It really is dangerous without the exact right set up. And I see no reason to buy expensive tools you only use once in a while. Bogdan
