throttle return not working

Post by Bill Watson » Tue Sep 02, 2008 12:46 pm

This happened to my '04 as well at about 35,000 miles. Investigation showed that the return spring was fine, but the 'close' cable had kinked over time within the throttle grip housing. Why? From the best I can tell, running too much slack on the 'close' cable causes it to bend inside the housing as the carb isn't pulling one end back in the early stages but your throttle tube is trying to push it back within the housing. And we know that you can't push on a rope - so it kinks. So I bought a new 'close' cable and took everything apart, lubed it all and was cautious to reassemble with little play in the system. Going too tight immediately causes too much friction too, so it's a little bit of a game to keep slack in the system - without leaving clearly too much like I did in the past. Inspect everything slowly and you'll find your culprit. Bill Watson Phoenix, AZ www.xanga.com/watt_man [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
