klr evac. from new orleans - nklr

Post by eddiebmauri » Sat Aug 30, 2008 12:29 pm

OK, not that anyone asked, but here are my evacuation plans from New Orleans; I have opted on evacuating on my KLR if I have to bail. I was in New Orleans for Katrina and learned my lesson. My old place had about 4'5" of water, in my new place, in a worst case scenario, I would have about 5' - inside, I am 5'10". Luckily, the weather forecasters are saying that Gustov should not be a repeat of Katrina. But it is too early to predict where it will land. I bought some basic stuff, batteries, candles, water, can food for about 3 days; cigars, Martel, and some 9mm rounds. I put anything of value up high in the house and wrapped my good cloths in plastic bags. My next move is to get my cars up high. A downtown parking lot, above the 3rd fl., hopefully! Then, wait it out, and depending on the forecast, at the last minute, I will (hopefully according to plan) ride the KLR out. I will only leave if it is mandatory, or if it looks really bad for us depending on the tidal surge vs. the levees. My KLR has Pelicans, a tail bag, and a tank bag, so I can carry about 3-4 days worth of cloths, plus camping gear. I still have a day or two until I have to make a decision, so for now I wait. Where will I go, if I have to go? Beats me, I have not planned that far ahead yet. Eddie (03' KLR - "la poderosa" vs. Gustav")

Think that'll do any good? "The Man" will probably confiscate your gun like the last time. I heard that many folks are still trying to get their firearms back from the illegal confiscation in the Katrina aftermath. Mark
