valve clearance check/ ragged idle

Post by rockiedog2 » Wed Aug 20, 2008 12:06 pm

Just thought I would pass along these clearance numbers... Last time clearance was checked was Feb 08 at 7844 miles. The check was done this morning at 22614 miles for a total driven of 14770 miles uncorrected or 14031 corrected. My speedometer has a 5% error. Left Exhaust at 7844 .010 at 22614 .009 Right Exhaust at 7844 .009 at 22614 .009 Left Intake at 7844 .007 at 22614 .007 Right Intake at 7844 .007 at 22614 .007 Being a little old, and a little lazy, I may never check the valves again. What really prompted me to check the valves was it had started idling a little ragged. Well obviously the valve clearance isn't the problem. Pulled the plug and it was clean as a pin(14770 miles on it) but I put a new one in it anyway...the old one was a little white like it's running a little lean/hot maybe. I gave it a dose of Seafoam not long ago so things should be nice and clean...I am suspecting Ethanol now. All this business started about the time it showed up around here. I do need to adjust the doohickey, I guess that could be it. Does Ethanol burn leaner/hotter? Joe J
