whole bunch of klr mods report.

Post by Darren Clark » Fri Aug 15, 2008 5:48 pm

Here is a quick list of mods I've done since rebuilding my bike after the deer crash: 1) Renthal XR/TTR Mini Race Handlebars. These are one inch shorter on each side than stock, unlike the desert bars which are one inch wider per side than stock. I found that after several hours of riding with the stock bars my arms were really fatigued, and something a little more narrow might feel more natural. So far so good. From DennisKirk.com Part Number 594976 Manufacturer Part #: 61101BK 2) Metzler Tourance Adventure. Just put these on the front and rear, so far the only word of warning is stay off of wet grass! 3) 16T sprocket. Since I do about 90% freeway and 10% off road now I decided to give the 16 tooth sprocket a try. It really drops the RPM's on the freeway, so it doesn't feel like I need a 6th gear anymore. Taking off isn't as bad as I thought it would have been, but it's not for playing around in the woods. It could really use a gear lower than 1st now. When I go to play in the woods I'll be switching back to a 14T sprocket. 4) '08 front fender on an '04 bike. I ordered this from eBay on accident, I saw a red KLR-650 fender and bid on it. Only after winning did I notice it was for an '08. It's a brighter red than the '04 and shaped different, but the big difference it on the freeway! It doesn't catch anywhere near the amount of air that the old style did, there is no flapping, or twitching at all. I highly recommend replacing the old style fenders with the '08 style fenders if you do any major freeway riding. Bolts right on and fits fine. I can't believe I've ridden so long with the stock brakes (especially with the freeway travel I do). I've also replaces the pads (which you're supposed to do with a new rotor) and have been running a stainless steel brake line since shortly after buying the bike. No, it's still contains the spawn of hell. Any bike it graces is sure to spew pea soup. By the way, 2 weeks and 3000 miles later, bikes running fine, but my Zumo 550 crapped out [-( Sean Brown Looking for the perfect gift for the wife/Mom/or "the person who has everything?" www.brownsbirdestates.com To: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com Sent: Friday, August 15, 2008 6:11:11 PM Subject: [DSN_KLR650] Re: Have an 08 OEM Skid plate, Mint $40 plus shipping
