I'm shopping for new tires and tubes for my 1971 Honda CL350 Scrambler which
is mint condition with only 6800 original miles. Even the tires are
original on this little beauty. The front is a 3.00-19 and the rear is a
3.50-18. I'm not having any trouble finding a rear tire in the exact size,
but the closest I can find for the front tire is a 2.75-19. The only place
I've looked so far is the Dennis Kirk website and they have some IRC GP-1
Dual Sport tires that seem like they would do the job. I don't plan on
putting a ton of miles on the bike. It will be a spare bike for use if
friends or relatives want to come with for a short ride. I'm wondering what
the difference is between a 2.75 and a 3.00 front tire. Is there going to
be a noticeable difference, will it be safe, and is there somewhere else I
should check for tires. I called Fred a few months ago, but it didn't sound
like he carried anything along those lines. And advice or help is
appreciated.

Looking at tiresunlimited.com I found a vintage Avon tire in that
exact size. However, most of the tires available in 19" appear to be
either 3.25-19 cruiser tires or 110/90-19 tires for things like the
V-Strom or BMW "enduro" motorcycles with 19" front wheels.
What you could do is measure the width of the rim and report that to
us. That will tell us whether the best width of tire for you is 2.75
or 3.25, since tire manufacturers have a rim width table on their web
sites.

Ross,
Look on the manufacturers websites, Dunlop, Michelin, Bridgestone, etc and
see what they make. Then contact your favorite dealer and have him order
the tires. I found a great Michelin, the Activ, for my streeter KLR.
Great set of tires, fairly sticky in the wet and 2,000 miles so
far..........at least another 3,000 to 4,000 before the rear needs to be
changed.
The best dealer as far as price and availability that I have found is
Southwest Mototires at swmototires.com. They also have manufacturers links
on their site, great prices and a good deal on shipping for two or more
tires..................like free. I have yet to have any tires that I've
ordered in the past three years put on backorder and I usually get the
order within two-three days. Much quicker and much, much less expensive
than the local stealers. On their site right now is a Bridgestone S11
90/90/H19 for $67.95. This is an equivalent for a 3.00x19 front that's
stock on your antique Honda. They do charge $7.00 shipping on tubes, so
you may find them less expensive elsewhere.
I don't own stock in the company; just a really happy customer.
Ordering a new set of Pirelli Scorpion ST's for my Strom next week.

That bike should be fine with a 2.75 front. It might steer a little quicker, with a little less
flotation in sand, which you will likely never miss.
I bought new tires for my son's CL350 a few years ago. I think I found CS858s in the
right sizes, or close enough. I know that when I put them on my MZ, I wanted 3.50x16s,
but I could only get 3.00s. They work fine.

Just wanted to share this with the group - this morning I installed
some mirror vibration isolators I bought online at
www.klr650.com
(
http://www.klr650.com/MrVibIso.htm) and they work pretty well. I
commute about 35 miles to work on I270 and I495 (in the DC area) and
for the first time ever I could see what was behind me!

JCWhitney has some Cheng Shin tires listed here:
http://www.jcwhitney.com/Motorcycle-Street-Tires/600014323.jcw
You might be able to source them elsewhere as well. I dug around and found a couple you might consider:
Here's a 3.50x18 for the rear:
http://tinyurl.com/6c4ol7
Here's a 19" front tire 3.25-3.60 wide:
http://tinyurl.com/5ocwyw
Another 19" front tire 2.50 wide:
http://tinyurl.com/5l5ojx
Maybe you can dig around and find an exact match.
