Short answer - get an air-cooled 250 for off-road and cruiser or crotch rocket for on-road depending on your tastes. If finances or other considerations limit your choice to 1 bike, the KLR is more "on-road worthy"; the DR is better off-road. I ride an '06 "roadified" KLR - Bridgestone TW's, X-Ring superbike chain, 16 tooth front sprocket. It's reasonable around town, reasonable on long trips, reasonable off-road. It's great for go-everywhere riding in a single package, but does nothing very well. With watercooling hardware, exposed parts, large gas tank, tall seat and high weight distribution, I never understood the fascination with KLR off-road performance. It's just not that kind of bike. If you want to ride 25 miles to the nearest logging trail and jump some logs and ford rivers, get a DR. It's easier to handle, has less to break. -- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, "ncsamish" wrote:
