I'm considering a new KLR OR a new Suzuki DR650S. If any readers have an opinion of one vs. the other, I'd like to hear it. Thanks. Norman

DR a little better off road, KLR better doing 80 all day long. KLR water cooled, DR air cooled. If you live in a hot climate KLR may be better. KLR bigger gas tank (either a blessing if you are really remote or a curse if you are really remote fully gassed and drop it alone .... and haven't been to the gym lately). I think the DR has a gear driven balancer ... and all KLR riders are familiar with our doo hickey problems. Both bikes seem to always wind up on the bike magazines lists of the all time quiet classics. Both will take you almost anywhere. Hard choice .... and they are both cheeeeeap. Hey Zack, how do you like your DR. Zac deserted the KLRistas and traded for a DR. Criswell

It's true. Thats what I did. Didn't do it out of dissatisfaction with the KLR, other then its oil suckin ways. Which do I like the best? A slight nod to the DR, based on brakes, suspension and power. Both need mods. Did a ride in Idaho last year. Lots of KLRs were there that had no problems. On the new DR, I rode in a manner that I wouldn't have attempted on the KLR. Good and bad. Good-whoa!this is flat fun. Bad-crashes are harder. Really, there's no way to go wrong with whatever you get. Remember, DRs' are faster then KLRs, prettier too. Traitor! We need to have the KLR/ DR Top Fuel (Green Chili Burrito at the Moab Diner) Summernationals at Moab this June. I'll be there in my fire suit pardner (with my custom red / blk / yellow fire retardant paint job. Criswell

Touchy, Touchy. Your artfully applied paint job does help the KLR, but remember----beauty is only paint deep, ugly is clear to the doohickey. KLR more comfortable for rolling down the highway at 75 - 80 mph all day long, water cooled, big gas tank. Dr 650 somewhat better in dirt, small tank, air cooled. Both will go just about anywhere depending on rider skill. A real dirt bike is better but you can't ride the highway all day on one. The KLR isn't a trials bike so be careful what you get into. People on this list get 70,000 miles on them (and a few even more). Don't know the longevity of the DR. Another plus for the DR is you can easily lower it if you are short of inseam. You can lower a KLR if you purchase the after market dog bone. The doohickey is something you must doo on a KLR on pre 2008. Don't know about the 2008's. Criswell

What is the DR650 S? Is the "S" something special? The KLR has a somewhat more dedicated forum group, but the DR has pretty firm support too. I like the looks of the KLR a bit more too. I find the DR a bit too "dirt" for me. But that's me. In past postings the opinions ran "DR for more dirt/trail, less road; KLR for more road, less dirt/trail. The DR is a bit lighter, but the aircooling poses some restrictions if you're riding in hot climates. --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, "roncriswell@..." wrote:

Suzuki calls the current DR the DR650SE. I don't know that there is a plain "s" model in the lineup. The DR and the KLR have a lot of overlap in function, although they feel quite different. The DR suits my purposes a little better. It is smoother, and seems better made than the KLR. The Corbin seat on my DR is very comfortable, much more so than the dished Corbin on my KLR. Because of the water cooling, the KLR top end should last longer than the DR. My experience with the two bikes is bearing that out. With just shy of 30k on the clock, the DR is ready for valve guide seals and probably rings, while the KLR doesn't seem to need anything at 41k. I bought both bikes used, and don't really know the history of either, although I know the DR saw some pretty rough use in the hands of at least one PO.

Hey funny you should mention these boots. I was lookin for a shop I stopped in a while ago but couldn't remember the name. As it turns out it was Cycle Gear. I haven't gotten back there yet but they do have those boots on sale for about the same price. I think they only have the red ones. Anyway sounds like when I get back it may be worth a trip up there and check them out. Thanks --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, "fasteddiecopeman" wrote:
