nklr - locomotives

Post by Gary LaRue » Sat Jul 05, 2008 12:28 pm

There is a rail museaum in Sacramento, California, but I don't believe they have rides there. There's another train museum which has locomotive rides on Hwy 89 in the Sierras. It is somewhere between Sierraville and Quincy, and I think it was in Graegale. (Sp?) I was there once many years ago, but I didn't ride one . Just last summer my Lady and I took a ride on the locomotive out of Railtown in Jamestown, CA. That was the one that was in the "Back To The Future" film, the "Pettycoat Junction" series and many many others. That was a pretty long ride, too. I just found http://www.railmuseums.com for a listing of all museums. Mind you, not all will have rides. They have a pretty nice setup there with restoration shops. We were allowed to just wonder a bit around the yard. Of coures we kept pretty clear of the equipment and stayed out of the way. Very cool stuff. They had two engines with steam up ready to run and about three or four on the side with fire in the boxes. They have a five hour ride and I think they even have a dinner run. Don't know though but I would guess they have a web site. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
