the front brakes on my 2006 suck. Ok for dirt, but really poor on the
hard. I changed over to Galfer pads. Not much improvement. Is it worth
taking the jump to a bigger rotor?

YES!!
I made the changeover to thte 320mm disc, with the SS braided brake
line, it makes a huge difference. I just switched from Galfer's to DP
sintered pads and saw another improvement in response and stopping. The
conversion isn't cheap but good things seldom are.

I put the 320mm rotor on my wife's bike and mine 2 years ago. After
the initial 500 mile breakin, the braking and stopping is great, great
and more great.

Try the DP pads. Just the plain ones. They are "GG". The DP Pro is HH
and a bit more.

Don R100, A6F has my vote for president!!!!! Oh, he does not like K270?!?!?!?!? I like all of his platform but the comments about K270. Therefor, as a single issue voter (as is some 70% of the population), I must remand my vote to a more friendly candidate. sigh. And we could have had a (dirty) KLR in the White House, cough, the Mud House--if KLR equipped. PLEASE DON, reconsider your vile comments on the K270 (weeping noise) so that we might have a KLR in the Mud House.... revmaaatin. more weeping, coughing noise.....> crude oil (priced in ever weakening US dollars) has really pushed > down the US$ (it lost 50% of its value against the Euro so far). > > Don R100, A6F > >

I also put on the 320mm disc about 5,000 miles ago and love it.
Stopping is not a one finger affair. But, it's a lot better than
stock. It's a gigantic improvement over stock when riding two-up.
Improvement means better brake modulation/control and harder stopping.
I always felt like I'd go from not stopping fast enough to lock up
with the OEM brakes. The 320mm rotor lets you get to lock up in a
much more gradual/controlled manner.
I think I paid almost $200 for the upgrade. Now I see there is a
320mm w/ twin piston caliper kit f/s for $130 or some such price
(D'OH!). I'd get that one if I had to do it all over again. I would
like to have a wave rotor and twin piston caliper for my rear brake.
FYI, I was running braided S/S line w/ the stock rotor prior to
upgrading to the 320mm. If you're limited on funds, get the brake
upgrade 1st, then upgrade the brake line, IMO.
