Good enough to salve your conscience, perhaps, but without a continuous-feed chain oiler, nothing has been shown to give longer chain life than WD40. Squirting your chain intermittently with the snake oil of your choice may not be a complete waste of time, but darn close. Stop your bike a mile after lubing the chain, or five, and see how much lube you can find on the rollers and bearing surfaces of the sprocket teeth.
