I'd use a white lithium grease or a cable lubricant. Typically around $6.

You'll be all set to lube the cables without a mess.
I'd check for binding first and you want a little bit of slack in the cables
down by the carb for proper operation. Sometimes you might want to twist the
entire throttle housing a bit on the handlebars to ensure the cables don't
have too sharp a bend in them.
