14,000.00 mile valve check
The last time I checked and adjusted the valves on my A 19 (2005)
KLR 650 was at 4,000 thousand miles. Someone mentioned that I should
check the valves again at 14,000 thousand and that is what I did
today.
It was a nice sunny day here in SW Pennsylvania and no rain in sight.
Since I have to work on my A 19 outside I figured it was time to
Git-R-Done.
I got the Valve CD out and while I was watching it I wrote down
step by step what I had to do. The last time I did this at 4,000
miles
I set the valves to their most wide open position that was allowed
which is .008 for the intake and .010 for the exhaust.
Now the A 19 has 10,000 thousand MORE miles on it since I did that
adjustment and I was really surprised that nothing has changed.
Yes both intake valves still has .008 clearance and both
exhaust valves of .010 clearance.
Since I had a lot off the bike I figured I would put a new clutch
cable on before the stock one broke. I had bought a spare clutch
cable from Fred http://www.arrowheadmotorsports.com last year.
Then I looked at the air filter and boy was that dirty. That got
changed also. The only thing that went wrong today was when I tried
pulling off the connection at the temperature sending unit. The
metal tab pulled off. I managed to solder a wire on to what was
left on the sending unit and spliced it to the other wire.
Now I am "HAPPY" that I still got "HAPPY" valves.
