peak oil -- not your typical lame oil thread
Just note regarding the comment below about electric vehicles "putting too
much demand on the power grid". Not an issue. Don't worry about it for a
long time. I am an Electric Station Operator for the City of Los Angeles
Department of Water and Power, and the system is only carrying about 15%-30% of
power available at night. If cars are recharged at night, it would work out
well. And if demand increases, the electric utilities are more than happy to
expand to sell more electricity. And easiest solution for more power is to
build more nuke plants.

granted there is the logistics of it all though. But being able to make your
own fuel is the
way to go.
I still say fuel cells are the way to go though.They are the only technology
that will satisfy
the american gluttony for speed and power on an electric motor. Battery
technology has to
evolve to the point that the are light enough and have enough capacity to
give a person a
300 mile range at 75MPH. Hybrids are ok but one day we will not have any
gasoline to use
at all.
