Ron, I just finished doing extensive repair on my KLR Tengai plastic. I
learned a few things. The connie bags are probably ABS or
polypropylene. Thats a guess. ABS is very popular for fairings. The KLR
fairing is Poly though. Anyway, I repaired my ABS with Lego's disolved
in acetene. Throw a bunch of them in a glass jar and pour in some
acetone. Close the lid tightly. It takes a day or so to melt. Then
smear it on the part to be repaired and voila. It will take a long time
to harden if you go too thick but it works. I also tried using some
sheet polypropylene I had laying around, cementing it with ABS plumbing
cement. Be real careful here. The stuff I got had poly in it so it
forms a flexible bond. Good for plumbing but not so good for fixing
motorcycle parts. Epoxy does not bond to ABS or Poly. It sticks but
doesn't make a true bond.
There's a product called "Plastex" that is supposed to work great but
its pretty costly.
