I have been working off and on(mostly on) on my 06 Lime Green since
January and I think it's as ready as I can get it....finally. From
one end to the other numerous times. Take it apart, put it back
together. Try it out. Take it apart again. Change something. Put it
back together again. Try it out again. Take it back apart. Put it
back together again. Being as cheap as they come, lots of the new
stuff is homemade from stuff lying around the shop for years. It
looks a little like what Mel Gibson might ride in those doomsday
movies...well, not really. Nothing radical or new(most everything
imaginable must have already been done to the KLR, right?) but it all
works pretty good together and seems like it will go the distance,
right now anyway. It has been a seemingly never ending process but I
can't think of anything else to do to it. I think it's ready. We'll
see...
Leaving from the bowels of Mississippi the 19th for Calgary, Hyder,
Inuvik, Chicken, Eagle, Fairbanks, Prudhoe Bay, Denali, Anchorage,
Homer, Haines, Skagway, Valdez, Dawson Creek, Bella Coola, Idaho back
country, Moab, Colorado backcountry, Pikes Peak, back to MS. 5 or 6
weeks? Maybe 12000-13000 miles? If I'm lucky. Will report, if able.

Not to add to your burden, but pictures would be nice, too. Have a safe
adventure, you lucky dog!

Joe, Depending on your present mileage, don't forget that your valves will likely need an adjustment in NLT~6000 smiles. I think general list wisdomw is NLT 2000, 6000, and 10000 will get you out to some 6000 miles more later. Many have suggested that their valve stabilize at ~10000 miles. I think the OEM guide is there for a reason--except the 08 nonsense of going 15ooo miles before a valve check. head shake. Nonsense! I just did a valve adjustment saturday (all valves change at least one shim size, two valves, two shim sizes)on my new-to-me 98KLR650. After a 2000 mile journey home, it was in just in spec but ready to be adjusted to max at 22,456 miles. Previosly checked bu PO at 19000 "in spec". Looking forward to your report. I hope your electric clothes work! I would love to have a copy of the maps when you get back and a legible accounting of the bread-crumbs so you know how to get back home! revmaaatin.> country, Moab, Colorado backcountry, Pikes Peak, back to MS. 5 or 6 > weeks? Joe,
You're living the dream that many of us only wish for and never have the
time, courage, or money to accomplish.
You can take us along with you if you carry a Blackberry or similar gadget
that can take pictures and email them to a list member that can post them on
the website.
A daily journal with pictures would be really great.
I imagine that there will be many places that won't have cell coverage where
you're going but satellite phones are very expensive from what I understand.
Anyway.... Good luck on your trip. I suspect that you'll have a LOT of DSN
KLR riders along with you in spirit on your journey.

When I planned my big trip, I had stops in the bit cities where stuff like this could be done, tire replacement is going to be an issue also, you need to be sure someone along the way is going to have what you need in stock paid for awaiting your arrival as you can't spend extra days waiting on FEDEX, UPS or worse USPS! Or you could carry the tires with ya have seen pictures of folks in africa, where there is NO WHERE to get your stuff!> > --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com > , "rockiedog2" > wrote: > > > > I have been working off and on(mostly on) on my 06 Lime Green since > > January and I think it's as ready as I can get it....finally. If you decide to go that route, I'll pony up my services. I've got a web site I'm not doing much with and will happily repost whatever you can send. All you'd have to do is email pictures (text too if you like) and I can get them posted and update the list for you (will email family with updates as well if you like). No charge, no catch. Totally up to you, but the offer is on the table. Hit me off list if you're interested... you@... Best of luck. If you can post your route you'll probably find that
there are KLRIsta who would offer services and/or food and lodging on
route. I for one would be glad to offer space and assistance if you are
in SE Wisconsin/northern Illinois.

Hey Guys,
I'm selling my KLR. Decided on a 2008 V-Strom 650. This KLR has 4400
and seen mostly pavement. It has nice upgrades and of course, the
doohickey. Silver/Black. $4400.
