klr wiped out and the subject of insurance.

on 05/06/08 I walked in and sat down to eat lunch at MOngolian Grill on River road Puyallup. I had my food cooked and sitting down within 3 to 4 minutes and I take about 4 bites and everyone jumping up to look out front and when I turn around my bike is laid out in the middle of the main aisle fronting the stores. A guy had a cast on his foot and it stuck between his gas and brakes. he jumped the curb, runs over the steel post that had a large cement base hits the bike then takes out the side of the van and pushes my bike about 20 to 22 feet under the front of the truck grinding it against the pavement. It started right up but the throttle was stuck to full. So my buddy trailered me home. I have the full tank guards with the extra footpegs. The bike was on its side with the foot pegs wedged between the pavement and under his bumper. The cage is broke in a few places and completely twisted on one side it wrap-ped around and bent the tank a little. the other side bent the forward footpeg forward and the mounting post ground the pavement on the brake side. It did some scraping on the rear plastic crash guard but cosmetically protected it. I have not ripped it apart to see damage but it would have been much worse without the crash guards. I will be suprised if frame is not twisted or broke. Leads to subject I bought bike 5/15/07. I went home and since Foremost insures my RV and I reccomend them for that I put my bike before I picked it up the following day. Foremost was around $1,150 for high coverage with 10,000 medical for solo accident. My buddy suggested progressive and they were just under $900 with $5,000 medical. I called Geico and they were $581 for a year with $2,000 medical. I recently switched my 2003 F350 to American Family and save just under $600 a year. I was about to switch my bike to them on 06/16 for $410 annually for the exact same coverage as my current geico. This effects everyone. 1 Where do you get the best price on comparable motorcycle insurance. 2 Most importantly. How have you been treated by the different insurance companies. Who has treated you good and Who has treated you bad?

Bummer about your bike, hope it's not too damaged. We pay $1050 per year to AAA (Auto Club of SoCal in these parts) for an '03 RAV4, a '98 T100, a '97 KLR, and an '03 DR-Z. Don't know the breakdown among the vehicles without having the policy in front of me. Haven't had a problem getting claims paid on the car and truck, haven't had any on the bikes. We've got some discounts for good driver, garage, loyalty, etc. __Arden

You will probably never get the right answer but I HATE FARMERS as I was SCREWED by them when I as 20 years old, car insurance, broken into, totalled the inside getting radio, speakers and tires and wheels, broke all the glass, it was unlocked idiots. Iended up getting about $120.00 from them for everything, had nice custom wheels and tires, etc, nice little Ford Courier truck, back in the day, paid cash $2300.00, now have ALLSTATE and they have been very fair on numerous issues, three kids = 3 x 2 issues so far and they have not changed our rates, replaced the roof two time due to hail damage, no problem, in fact the second time I made 2K from it as their estimate was off by that much! Others will love FARMERS and other HATE ALLSTATE. I have heard great things from other riding buddies about progressive? Who knows! I have USAA insurance. They were always considered the best. However, they screwed me on my nonKLR motorcycle. They called it a total and lowballed me. Got bike back with salvage title. I went after LA County and it paid the deductible and a little more ie LA County admitted fault. I had an MD friend check me out and he said bruised kidneys, take a Vicodin and you will be fine as long as you aren't pissing blood. My MD friend didn't bill me so I didn't claim any medical. HOWEVER, DESPITE LA COUNTY ADMITTING FAULT, MY INSURANCE COMPANY CHARGED IT AGAINST ME AS BEING MY FAULT. It took me a 4 months to figure out USAA's error. When I confronted USAA, they wouldn't believe me it wasn't my fault. I finally convinced them and they credited me some money. BUT, EVEN USAA ISN'T WHAT IT USED TO BE. USAA DOES GIVE MORE MEDICAL INSURANCE CHEAPER ON MOTORCYCLES THAN MOST OTHER INSURANCE COMPANIES. Jeffrey

Damn glad he's okay. And I hope he took the opportunity to "present" the wound for the officer's visual inspection. Not often you can do that and not get arrested eh! :-) Chris -----Original Message----- From: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com [mailto:DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of Arden Kysely Sent: Wednesday, May 07, 2008 4:25 PM To: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com Subject: [DSN_KLR650] Tread hazards/ATGATT Another reminder that you can't be too careful on a motorcycle. A buddy of mine was in the fast lane of our local freeway (3 lanes each direction at this point) minding his own business at about 70 mph and watching the traffic around him for the usual cager hijinks when a car in the next lane kicked up a monster chunk of tire tread and sent it flying into the front wheel of his GS 1150. He was down on the low side in an instant and sliding on his back along the narrow shoulder next to the crash wall, the GS preceeding him and going about 50 yards farther. A CHP a few cars behind him stopped traffic and checked him over. The sum total of this very lucky man's injuries are a 2" raspberry on his left butt cheek. He was wearing hiking boots, a good moto jacket, a helmet that bounced over the Bots dots...and blue jeans. The jacket is shredded but didn't wear through, the helmet is scraped but held up fine, and the pants are rags. A little missing skin is a small price to pay considering all the ugly things that could have happened in this crash, but with one more bit of protection he could have walked away with nothing but a scary memory. __Arden
