OK, so I learned my lesson by not winterizing properly (at all).
When I tried to start my bike up for the season it would only run
fully choked and it was backfiring quite a bit with any bump of the
throttle, it was basically unridable and I was afraid to even try to
let it run to try and clear out the carb with a mixture of fresh gas
and Sea Foam.
I wound up changing out the gas, pulling the carb off, taking it
apart and giving it a thorough cleaning, I also drilled the lean jet
plug and adjusted that out one full turn while I had the carb off.
In addition, I changed the spark plug.
After I got everything back together, it started right up and is
running better than it ever has... I think making it a bit richer
helped out quite a bit.
I did have one other unrelated issue though. Once it had been
running for a while coolant started pissin out on the ground. WHen I
checked it I found a pine hole in the resevoir. Upon inspection this
looks to be a factory defect as the plastic resevoir had what looked
like an air bubble in it. I have another resevoir on order, but for
a temporary fix I put a screw in it and surrounded the outside of the
screw with QuickSteel. Seems to be holding for now.
Happy riding...

My insurance bandit tells me that ING insurance does not insure the
2008 KLR in Canada. This is the only bike that they don't insure.
Has anyone else heard this bit of news, it seems very strange to me
somehow and I would like input before the bell for Round One rings.
Thank you in advance.
