This is a common clearance problem. The chain will begin to rub on high mileage engines. Best way to deal with it while you have it open is to use a sharp gasket scraper to chisel a small chip at a time until you have more clearance. If you must use a grinder mask off the opening so the chips don't enter the engine. I prefer the first method as you can remove the chips as you make them. If the scraper is sharp no hammer is needed. Just use the palm of you hand to "hammer" the scraper. This way will also prevent you from taking too deep a cut and cracking the case. Walt
