Had to go on reserve and normally can expect to go about 30 miles or so if necessary on what's left but ran out after less than 10 miles. Held less than 5 gallons at fillup. Is there something amiss with the petcock, or the reserve hickey, or what? thx Joe

Oh yeh forgot that I had recently added one of the little brass element clear filters in the line to the carb. This is the first time on reserve after adding the filter...maybe related in some way? thx again Joe

Hi Guys (and Gals), In the UK I have a Triumph Speed Triple 1050 (it's love I tell you!), but later this year I am ridng from Toronto to Vancouver (don't bother telling me to cut out the flat bit in the middle - I'm doing it!) and so I will be buying a bike beforehand from Toronto, probably from a dealer for some peace of mind, and selling it in Vancouver 4 weeks later. Having done some research I have narrowed it down to a small number of bikes, with the KLR650 being favourite for a number of reasons: 1) It will handle paved and gravel roads 2) It's upright and will be better for distances (max about 5-600kms in any one day - I did 642 miles in one day on my Triumph last year) 3) Even if I buy one new it is pretty low priced and they seem to sell easily enough in North America and hang on to a bit of their value This bike isn't available in the UK, so is there anyone out there who is prepared to advise me that I am making a big mistake in selecting this bike for the trip? I won't be carrying luggage, just a decent rucksack, as I will be travelling VERY light. Is the bike able to handle 8,000-10,000kms in 4 weeks? What attention will it need other than air, and lube? Does it burn oil? Any recommended tyres/tyres to avoid Thanks in advance.
