Now I rode about 30 miles and noticed the exhaust was getting really loud.
You guessed it, the retainer for the exhaust to the head is laying down by
the clutch cable. I am a little too pissed off to take it back. Anyone got
any idea what size nuts or bolts hold the thing on and if there could be any
other missing hardware that may have fallen off?

let a 'mechanic' work on my a9
Paul: We do learn eventually, don't we? Nobody will
take better care of your motorcycle than you. That's
why this motorcycle group was started. I'm totally
inept when it comes to motorcycle maintenance, but I
do know how to read. That's all you need to do to
learn how to maintain your bike. Follow this list and
your problems go away.
God bless this list and Fred Hink!

book -- the road gets better from here
Listers,
I just learned of this book at KLR650.Net . The author is Adrian Scott
in Australia. He rode solo on a KLR650 from Siberia to Turkey and wrote
about it. You can learn more and order a copy at
www.users.bigpond.net.au/AdrianScott . Guys that ordered a copy a bit
over a week ago have already received them. Cost a few minutes ago is
$28.33 US including postage. Adrian suggested using Pay Pal as the best
method to get a copy.
Best,
